Work on museums and galleries forms an important part of our work. We have had many long standing working relationships with clients in this sector. Below we highlight a few recent large projects. Click on any highlighted title to see more details and photographs of those projects.

Leeds City Museum

This £20M project completed in Autumn 08 consists of the upgrading and conversion of the existing Institute Building in central Leeds into a new and exciting museum for Leeds. The fantastic spaces in the building have provided a wide variety of displays and exhibition areas that can be put to many uses.

Weston Park Museum, Sheffield

Completed in 2007 this extensive museum and gallery was comprehensively refurbished and partially rebuilt. LD&T were appointed to design the exhibition lighting for all the varied gallery spaces.

The Walker - National Gallery of the North, Liverpool

We created a comprehensive and adaptable lighting system for a large, new suite of temporary exhibition galleries. These were created from a number of old spaces previously used as storage rooms and a conservation studio. In addition, an existing light well has been spanned to form an associated entrance foyer where new display lighting highlights a shop and interpretative areas.

The Gulbenkian Museum, Lisbon

LD&T spent four years during the nineteen nineties gradually upgrading the lighting systems in this world famous museum complex whist it remained fully open. The challenge was to upgrade existing lighting that had provided a highly regarded visual environment for nearly thirty years. New technology and careful design and location resulted in a new lighting scheme that brought out the best feature of each individual object and maintained the careful balance between object and architecture.
